The session will examine how the Frayer Model can be used in math classes as a tool to increase vocabulary efficiency and proficiency. The model assists students with limited English proficiency and those English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Games such as the Pyramid Game, Kahoot, etc.. can increase student engagement in learning vocabulary in an enjoyable manner. The Frayer Model components will be discussed along with some practice and examples. Word Walls can be used as a running document of the vocabulary terms learned; a visual math vocabulary library held throughout the year. Math posters in the classroom can also provide vocabulary and content definitions as visual resources in attaining/retaining math knowledge.
